New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “But I will say this, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”

New York police released surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.

“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was expected to be a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
