Arteta Fears Injury Woes Could Hinder The Gunners' Silverware Quest

Arsenal's manager has voiced fears that his team's chase for honors this season is being threatened by a worrying circle of fitness setbacks and a relentless fixture list.

Key midfielder Declan Rice missed the midweek clash to face Club Brugge due to illness. In addition, forward Leandro Trossard and center-back William Saliba remain on the sidelines.

There was, however, better news regarding Gabriel Jesus, with the South American striker added to their European squad. He replaces the hurt youngster Max Dowman, who picked up an ankle injury.

"Practice, no because we don't have time to train. But clearly the fact that you are missing players, you are loading other players more, there's a consequence to that and it's a really dangerous circle."

Dowman's setback is the latest in a long series of injuries for the club. Since the beginning of last season, they have recorded 95 player absences, the second-highest total in the English top flight.

Extended Absences

• Defenders Cristhian Mosquera and Gabriel Magalhães are unlikely to return until 2025.
• Midfielder Kai Havertz still rehabilitate from surgery and "requires more time," according to the manager.

Arteta dismissed the suggestion that training intensity were to blame, pointing to a shortage of opportunity for drills. He highlighted the pressure on available players, some of whom have played over 150 matches in two seasons.

Transfer Plans

Even after a significant summer investment exceeding £250 million, Arteta stated the team is not looking to enter the January transfer market.

"Right now we're just focusing on getting the players back and with luck it will be a question of a short time," he commented. "We know how crucial those coming weeks are going to be."

The squad experienced their initial loss in 18 matches at the weekend, cutting their advantage at the top of the Premier League to two points.

Attention now turns to the Champions League, where a sixth group victory would virtually guarantee a knockout phase finish. Winger Gabriel Martinelli could create history by scoring in a fifth straight consecutive Champions League fixture.

"We are frustrated with the outcome, but we have to keep going," he said. "This isn't like everything is going badly because we lost one game. So we remain united."
